Pelaburan zakat di Malaysia : kajian di Baitulmal Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (MAIWP)

Call Number:BP180.A35 1999
Abstract:Zakat is an important element in the development of the ummah. The implementation of zakat has proven to be a successful means for establishing a harmonious society in all aspects of life. This study focuses on zakat investments that are carried out by the Islamic Religious Council of the Federal Territory (MAIWP) Baitulmal. To clarify research on zakat investments, the real concept of zakat in Islam including the recipients and the types of zakat are discussed. The views of Islamic scholars and economists on zakat investments according to the Islamic perspectives are stressed, besides the main topic of discussion on the principles and policies of the Development and Investment Unit (UPP) of the MNWP Baitulmal itself in accomplishing zakat investments. To obtain more specified and clearer information, interviews with officials at the UPP Baitulmal MAIWP were conducted. Articles, newsletters, acts and data obtained from the UPP are also used as a main reference. The summary and commentary are done in the final part of this study. A few proposals and suggestions that are thought necessary are forwarded. The outcome of this study shows that investments are the best alternative in the effort to expand zakat moneys for upgrading the economic level of the muslim ummah especially the poor. The investments efforts that have been carried out by the UPP Baitulmal MAIWP through projects and activities using excess zakat moneys have so far shown to be successful. Zakat investment returns that are channeled to the poor through aid schemes and programmes that have been organized, are able to overcome some of the economic problems affecting the muslim in the Federal Territory. Appropriate measures and efficient steps taken by those involved are essential to solve problems arising in the implementation of zakat investments.
